Through your lies

I am digging through all your lies,
trying to find something that was true,
The more I look the less I see,
for all the things you said are now meaningless,
you were just fooling me with empty words,
Distracting me with loving gestures,
I gave you my love, my trust, my loyalty
But you just took it and threw it down the drain.
You left me cold bitter and broken in the rain.
You gave me lies, I gave you love.

Kaptein, the dog that saved us

South Africa is a country obsessed with race, so much that it's citizens will jump at any and every opportunity to make their fellow man feel inferior. We can turn any argument into a full blown race war, with different races quick to draw the lines and even government joining in at times, fanning the flames by playing the race card when it suits them.

However a few days ago a story emerged that a brown mix bred dog fell into Kimberley's Big hole. The dog was trapped for already 6 days before anyone spotted it swimming around in the deep water filled pit. I heard this from a friend and as a dog lover myself I was immediately drawn to this story, I started following the event on social media, news and word of mouth accounts of what has transpired.

I was actually amazed to log into a social site and read comments about the whole event, for the first time there were no racial slurs thrown about, no trolls on the forefront, fanning the flames of racial divide. No one mentioned anything about whether the owner of the dog was white or black and who should be blamed for what happened, It was as if everyone who commented was drunk on rainbow berry juice or something, black and white people were agreeing unanimously and pleading that the dog be saved, even Kurt Darren allegedly offered to hire a helicopter that could assist with the rescue operation. I was astonished, just the previous month, was Red October that further plunged South Africa into a backwards tug of war about race and now here people of all races were united regardless of their race or creed. When I looked at the footage on the news about the rescue the onlookers were a mixed bag of almost every single kind of South African, some rejoiced others shed a few tears of relief as "Kaptein" was finally brought to the surface. It took a little stray dog from Kimberley to prove to us that we as South Africans can accomplish our goals as one united force and look past our ignorance, we saved the dog but it also saved us because even just for two days we were all South Africans and not a color. Yes we have a History but we cannot forever sit and point fingers at the past, ignore the backwards thinking politicians, ignore the racist groups, and the individuals who want to tear this country's colorful fabric apart.
Let us pull together, stop the blame game, put down the race cards and start to work on our problems. We did it for "Kaptein", now let's do it for our children.
